The first issue is getting hydraulics operational. There may be options for an on engine pump, I do not know. A power steering pump from a medium duty truck would be my first choice. Getting it mounted would be my second priority. linkage type power from that tractor would be the next purchase. Jim
 
what are you doing that you need power steering? there is no set p for that tractor unless u install it from a 600 or 650. or install a power steering pump on it. then figure out the rest. been working on my w9 today getting ready for the pulls.
 
i have a char lynn ps set up on my w-9. if i get a chance today i will get some pictures and post them.
 
Dad bought a Char-Lynn power assist steering kit for a JD R diesel back in 1964. I doubt such a thing is available anymore. But there should be room enough under the hood of a W9 for a Saginaw power steering pump and reservoir, then the power assist cylinder Dad put on the R would work on a W9. Or the torque generator still available from Char-Lynn AKA Eaton would work installed between the steering wheel and the steering gearbox. Some place like Bates Corp. Or Stieners, or Walt's tractors that deals with Eaton on Char-Lynn parts all the time should be able to get you information on what's available and cost.
 
Why would you need power steering on that tractor? I have MANY hours driving a WD-9 or a John Deere R and both steer very easy for big tractors.

IH offered ps as early as the Supers. If you could find the drag link and power assist cylinder then use a GM (circa 70S &80s) power steering pump off any car or pickup would work nicely. Or a small pump driven off the crankshaft at the front
when you call around I suggest you ask if they have a setup for a W9 ,SW9,600 or 650 as some W9s got retrofitted with this system.
