Warm hard start

I have an elderly neighbor that has been having problems with his 2840 not wanting to start when it is warm. If he shuts the tractor down after cutting hay, it will barely crank over when trying to restart (like a dead battery). If he leaves it sit for an hour or less, it will restart fine. Now this past weekend, his 4440 did the same thing. Started fine in the cold weather (after being plugged in), but after running for a half hour and being warmed up, would then not restart after shutting if off for about 5 minutes. Could it be battery problems,or may the starters be senstive to the heat? I am going to try and get over there and do an amerage draw test while trying to restart. Any insight would be helpful.

Be sure all of the cable ends are clean and tight. Sounds like it cannot draw enough amps to crank fast enough. Could possibly be batteries, but I would check cables first.

Sounds like cables on this end. My 1086 acted the same way. Cables looked good but everything else checked out so replaced cables and ended the hard start problem.
