I posted about a week and half ago about my water heater
problems. So I replaced it a week ago and heres a picture of
what was inside of my old heater. Anoyd rod was even pretty
much gone. I had to have a new well drilled a year ago some of
that build up is from the bentonite used to drill the new well.
 
Best of luck with your new heater. Prefiltering may be a useful and cost effective device for improving the new heater's life, and water quality. Jim

Yikes. I agree with Janichilson. I am on a well and besides my water softener I have 3 in-line water filters. I also drain and flush my water heater at least once a year.
 
While your heater is new unscrew the anode plug far enough to put never seize on the threads. You'll be glad you did in the future when you go to check on or replace the anode.
