Help!!

I am overhauling the original water pump from my June 1953 TEA20 (Ser No TEA341439). I have been able to purchase the two bearings - but can't find the seal(s) anywhere in Australia!

I am looking for two seals: must have the unnumbered seal at the back of the impeller and the seal marked 8, useful but not essential, in the following diagram. (My water pump is as per the top half of the following diagram.)

The assembly is as follows:

The seal to the far right is from (I think) an Australian built Ford, which appears to be similar in size and function, but different in appearance to the original Ferguson impeller seal.

The seal fits in a hole in the impeller approximately 1.404" in diameter. The water pump shaft diameter is approximately 0.208". I can slightly increase or reduce the seal hole in the impeller. I don't think the shaft diameter is critical.

Hopefully, one of you Fergy geniuses on this Forum will point me in the right direction to obtain a new, replacement seal which will do the job.

Bob,

I presume you checked Bareco. What about Sparex? PN S.40075 looks similar to the right seal. It is listed as for the TEA-20.

They also have the Hub... which look like item 10. and is pn s.42742.

These parts are on page F.1 of the catalog... Though I am sure you have seen this already.

Would a local auto mechanic shop be able to find an acceptable seal?

Went to the local Ferguson Dealer who looked up Bareco and told me only complete water pump assemblies were available! I accepted his word instead of checking myself!

PN S.40075 is definitely the seal I need!!!

I am also looking for the two water pump gaskets; impeller unit to pump body; and pump body to engine. They don't appear to be listed in either Bareco or Sparex? Any idea of a part number?

If necessary, I can make the gaskets.

I was able to obtain the two bearings from a normal bearing supplier.

Just click 'Send e-mail' to the right of my last post. BTW, I think BARECO B2286 top gasket set has the waterpump gaskets but I have not seen them available individually.

Bob - please let me know where you were able to find those bearings. There are Fergy and Triupmh enthusaists all around the world searching for those things to no avail. This has necessitated the water pumps being replaced with entire new assemblies which have different bearings.
(I could use three pairs right now.)

Only a couple of years ago I did get the seals via MF. They looked different but worked fine.

I decided to overhaul the original water pump in my 1953 TEA20 as I did not like the "feel" of the modern replacement water pumps. Besides, I'm not a fan of component changes when the original component can easily be overhauled.

I bought the replacement bearings over the counter from a bearing and seal supplier in Toowoomba, Australia. They cost Aus$27 ex tax, around US$23 for the pair.

They are the same OD and ID as the original bearings, but approximately 1/16th inch narrower, which won't be a problem.

The original bearings are labelled:

"Hoffman England VH 117FR" (or maybe 117FS?)

The replacement bearings are labelled:

"UBC 6203-5/8RS"

Hoffman Bearings don't appear to have a home page so I suspect they no longer exist, although there are a number of references come up on Google.

John (UK) mentioned in an email last night that the original Ferguson TEA20 water pumps had some problems with seal seats pitting in the water pump body. The seal seat in my water pump is fine, however I located synthetic seats which could be machined into the water pump, if necessary.
