Water Pump TEA20

I was wondering how your water pumps spun, is there any resistance to it? I took mine apart because the seal was leaking. I pressed in the new one, but notice that the nut that holds the bold for the hub on the shaft was rubbing on the housing of the pump as it spun, as well as the block where the bolt goes through was also rubbing on the housing a little bit. It was doing this before it was disassembled as well. It looks like someone may have taken it apart before. The bold that holds the hub to the shaft appears to be threaded on one side but not on the other, with no bold head. Not really sure how this comes out either. I tried to tap it old, but it will not come. Tried to put channel licks on it to turn it out, and it won't come out that way either. I may end up just replacing the whole thing.

G'Day. That must have been quite awhile ago. I had no problems disassembling the pump, I replaced two bearings and a seal but I could not get the lenticular seal that I seem to recall went between the bearings?

One thing I do remember - the new replacement bearings - (hard to get) and seal cost me far more than a new water pump!!!

Imperial measurement bearings and seals are now very expensive due to low volume production, versus metric bearings and seals which are quite cheap. That is the bearing suppliers excuse anyhow!

The water pump does not rub or bind but is "firmly tight" to turn.

Thanks for the reply Bob. This is my first time with this type of undertaking. I am usually tearing apart houses. It took me a while to figure out that the seal actually was pressed in because when I took it apart, I ended up with three pieces, so It was difficult for me to picture. The cap was stuck in the impeller, the spring part was just floating freely and so was the small round black grommet/washer. Looks like someone disassembled the pump before, I wish I had a pic with me, I'm at work, but the bolt that holds the hub onto the shaft is strange. It looks like a half threaded machine bolt stuck in the hole with no head. The end with no thread looks like someone had pounded on it to get it in there. Then the threads that come through the hole, there is a nut on it. There was a groove in that nut from riding on the pump housing. I doubt that is how it was originally, but looking at your pics I couldn't see the area in question. Perhaps its not even the original hub because it looks a little different that the schematic shows. Anyway, thanks for the info. I have ground the nut so it doesn't rub, so there isn't any grinding, but it is "firmly tight" as you put it. I figured it would turn easily, guess not.

I'm not sure which part you're having a problem with. Here is the two types of water pumps:

Are you talking about difficulty removing the bolt & nut marked "6"?

I think the seal I could not get is the part marked "8" which appears unnecessary as there is a water seal behind the impeller.
