I have a leak behind the pulley on my 8n water pump,is this a leak that Barrs Leak can fix or do I send it out and get it repaired or just get a new one? the first time it gave me a problem in 22yrs tht I owned the 8n.Thanks for the help.

If it leaking behind the pulley best bet it's a shaft seal. Bars Leak will not fix that because the shaft is constantly rubbing on the seal.

Replaced a water pump on an N recently. Found out (read the manual) you do not need to remove the hood. Good luck.

A leaky waterpump can mean coolant is getting in the bearing or a loose bearing that affects the seal (shaft wobbles so seal can't do it's job).

Either way, eventually the bearing/shaft will let go, and the fan will propel itself into the radiator.

Fix it before that happens!

It needs to be rebuilt or replaced. Don't try the rebuild yourself; around here, it costs $35 for a shop rebuild. If that isn't possible, get a good replacement. Wherever you decide to get it, have them measure the pulley & confirm it is 5/8" & not 1/2".

Barsleak is a temp. fix at best,it will seal a leak in most cases, but will bite you [you know where]later. You will spend much longer taking the stuff out of clogged radiator tubes later than the quick fix is worth.I fell prey to that same thinking some time ago.Head repair[valves, milling, pressure testing],r&r [remove & rerod]with my 10 yr old daughter in Brownsville Tx.,and 2-3 flushings, and maybe I got it all.---lha
