water [pump

my water pump is making racket and needs to be replaced or rebuilt......what is the recommendation here? How hard is it to rebuild? Or should I just buy a replacement. I noticed they have both the rebuild kit and the water pump in the parts section.

Do not get a "new" one. Do not try & rebuild it. Get it rebuilt by a local shop. If you don't have one near by, these guys do 'mail order' work; give them a call to get a quote & shipping info.

And, they also do carbs, starters, generators, brakes, clutches, etc.

If the pump is making noise, do NOT run the tractor. It will launch the fan into the radiator when the bearings finally give out.

I have to get it running immediately.......I can't afford the time to send it from California to VA to have it rebuilt.......Why can't I just buy a new one?

Buy a rebuilt one from this site or for that matter any good auto parts store can get them. This site has pretty good prices and is on the west coast to boot

I only see new ones on this site......and rebuild kits......I don't see used rebuilt ones in the parts section......can you direct me Old?

I've replaced a couple of them with new - no problems so far. You can do it without taking off the hood. Remove the fan belt and fan and then there is room to remove the pump.

If you only see new then I guess that is all they have. As for rebuilding one your self if you do not have the correct tools it is pretty hard to do some of them I know I have tried and ended up with scrap iron since on most you have to press them apart and that leads to broken housings

Ron,

I'm with Bruce. DON'T run it with the water pump making noise. I did and it cost me about a $100 to have the raditor fixed along with the cost of the water pump.

Good luck,
Danny

" Why can't I just buy a new one?"

Because you never know what the quality of the new one will be unless you buy it from a reputable source.....and then you will pay more than it will cost to have it rebuilt.

Your call.

If you don't have a rebuild shop nearby, or it will take too long for them to do it, then you don't have much choice other than the vendor.

Ron, just another source for you. Try Commercial Waterpump Rebuilders, out of Texas, @ www.waterpumpkit.com. They are excellent and have been in business for years. They probably have a rebuilt unit on the shelf, ready to go, and they stand behind their work. I've used them several times and they are great!

Did'nt know you could get parts on this site. Clean mating surface real good. Get a mirror and drop light and check it before assembling. Wire brush all threads. I used loctite on mine. Take your time with it.

I have purchased new water pumps from both this site and nnalert and have not had a problem with either. I would not have a problem with getting a new water pump at TSc or a local ag store if I needed it in a hurry.

old........I got the new water pump from yesterdays tractor and there is a heavy washer with a nut welded on ear that extends from it. Do I need to use this metal washer or can I eliminate it and just use a gasket between the water pump and the block.......thanx in advance of your or anyone else"s for that matter response
