Water Softeners ?

I know a guy that smokes three packs a day, drinks a quart or whiskey a day and messes around with wild women. He is 85yrs old , going strong And hasn't hurt him a bit.

My old boss in the 70's use to talk about the 3 W's. Whiskey, women, and wild times. This was before the internet.

So, would it be better to use a De-ionizer instead
of a Water Softener?

I added a de-ionizer last year about 20 feet before the 65000 grain water softener and I don't know if it made a difference or not but I don't think they soften water by themselves. I just thought it might make less work for the softener.

Years ago I added an under sink R O unit to drink from. The builder of the house teed off the incoming water line so the kitchen sink didn't get softener cold water.

I have a softener, and have the water tested. 25 grains of hardness just went away; zero now. No additional sodium, either; as has been stated, you get more salt from processed food than your softener will ever produce in your water. I have a scale filter prior to the softener (scale buildup on everything was a problem, and the softener won't reduce that), and a RO system at the kitchen sink. I would have no qualms about drinking softened water for extended periods of time. Also, as stated, if one is concerned about increased salt in the water, use potassium chloride as the regeneration agent.

Softener supplies the whole house; no rings in the sink, shower, toilet; water heater is happier, less buildup on the elements and improved efficiency. Less detergent and soap usage, clothes rinse cleaner. Wouldn't be without one, now. zuhnc
