The standard home use extension cords I’ve purchased at Walmart or most any other store were 16 gauge, I use those for electric fence chargers, battery charger, extra lighting
For tractor/truck block heaters, water tank heaters, and other heavy load use I have a few 12 gauge contractor grade extension cords
When the average person looks at 2 50 ft extension cords with one costing around $20 and the other priced at over $50, it’s pretty easy to guess which one they will purchase
