Waterloo 4040 with cab

Gonna look at one this weekend at estate auction. 3500 hours. 2 wheel drive. JD loader. Been sitting for a while since the owner passed away and had a flat in the picture and probably mice moved in. I'm in between projects so if it goes cheap enough, it'll follow me home.

A couple low houred 4040's sold in an estate auction nearby over a year and a half ago. No cabs and one was SR and the other was QR. The SR tractor was around 20,000 dollars and the QR was over 23,000 dollars but do not remember the exact price. I had a thread here about it but can't find it.

Good info. The one I'm looking at is QR with full glass cab. 3800 hours. I doubt it runs as they just lined up the other equipment next to it half buried from settling.

Hopefully, they moved it while shifted into tow.

158 loader is worth $3K-$4K. I'll guess $8K-$10K for non operating tractor/FEL. Ditto on placing trans in "tow position" before moving tractor very far.

I agree with tx Jim 10 would be a hard limit for me. You might get the deal of the decade if it just needs some rewiring or engine work even or you could have 7 grand in parts for that synchro

Loved ours we had for most of my childhood. Ac. Kinda wish it had a powershift but it certainly was a favorite for raking hay and is very simple

While I'm partial to our 4040 w/powershift I prefer the QR for double the gears. Also the powershift internally is different. What could have been possibly a repair I could have done in my shop ended up going out to Tim S and needed to be double split all due to a snap ring. I didn't trust my local JD with the repair.

She'll be 48 this November and never left the farm

I will admit I’ve had to double split many more quad and synchro ranges to put synchronizers or other components (once one of them got a complete clutch housing and another time just bolted half a doner on) than powershift but you are correct it does happen and it is a stinker when it’s time no matter what’s in it

The less likelyhood of me having to do that specific task is actually one of the reasons that there’s only one synchro left the other 2 in that 30 year age window are powershift

The 4040 with cab and loader sold today for $26,000. (Not me) The auction company had a new rear tube installed, new fuel filter, new batteries and it ran real good. Loader hoses will all need to be replaced from sitting out in the weather and the Armstrong tires were sunchecked and cracked. People had been driving it around so I assume the tranny is functioning as it should.

Definitely to rich for me as well. If they confirmed hours were correct that is on the high side for those tractors. That is a dealer asking price there. Still a fair amount of risk as it has been sitting as you stated and there could be unknown issues as it starts working again that could crop up. 2 people really wanted that tractor.

" 2 people really wanted that tractor " Yep. The bidding was lively with several people at the beginning. No family to bid on it, the lady said they had a $15k minimum or she would keep it.

That is about the going market for a running cab loader tractor in fair/good shape. I watched two sell last month and they both were in the low twenties without a loader. These pre-emission tractors are going crazy right now with the cattle market so high.
