WaterPump repair

My 574 has a bad water pump. Should I rebuild or try to find a new one? How do you remove the pully? I can't tell if it is threaded or pressed on the shaft. Please give me your opinions and advice.
Thanks

My Dad and brother always bought a reman water pump, this site sells them at reasonable $$.

Re pulley is held on by the 4 bolts that hold the fan assembly on.
If you have small arms you can remove fan, pulley and water pump without moving rad.
We always put a piece of cardboard against the rad, then unbolt fan and rest it against the cardboard on the rad.
You can also remove the alternator/generator to get more room to access the bolts.

Gas or diesel? Either way if you were to buy a kit to rebuild it yourself you are better off buying a reman pump. That way you get a warranty. You would more than likely need a unified seal installation tool to rebuild it yourself. In the long run a reman would be the best route to take.

To put a rebuild kit in most water pumps requires a press. Then you have to have the right measurement tools and be fairly proficient in what it takes to get the parts all pressed back to there proper position. As said, for the average person and considering warranty the rebuilt pump is the way to go.

Decided to buy a new pump assy. I would like to use the old PULLY. What is the procedure for removing the PULLY from the old pump shaft and how difficult is it to install on the new pump shaft?

If the pictures are correct for the YT pump Jim linked above it looks like the fan bolts go through the pulley into the pressed on flange that will come on your new pump. I looked at some other pumps offered for your tractor and their photos also agree. Simply unbolting the fan unbolts the pulley. If you already have the pump off and the pulley doesn’t come off it is probably just tight or rusted on the centering flange. Use some penetrating oil and if you want to keep the paint as nice as possible place a board against the pulley and tap on the board. Pound against the pulley as if it is a bell and you are try to ring it,’ work side to side and all around, it should work loose.

Another case where including the engine in question might get different answers. It appears the linked pump is for a diesel only. If it is a gas (C200?) engine, in the parts book it looks like the pulley may be cast and is pressed on the shaft. It that is the case, careful use of a press with proper adapters and the proper procedure will be needed to not cause damage to the new pump. Buying a pump complete with pulley might be the better answer as I have heard of cases where there were fit issues between the old pulley and new shaft.

Was this a Gas or Diesel 574? I only have experience on the Diesel model.
If it is a Diesel, read my previous post and follow the link to the water pump part on this website and looking at the photo it shows the 4 bolt hub on the water pump shaft, the pulley goes on first, then the fan and the 4 bolts go through the fan hub then the pulley and thread into the water pump hub. It is a bit tricky to hold the fan, keep the pulley straight and thread the first bolt in. This is only if you don’t move the radiator forward.

In the case of the pump offered by YT for a Gas with a C-200 it looks like it the same scenario of the threaded hub if the picture they show is correct. YT pump for a 574 with C-200 I look at the CNHI parts catalog to see the options they offer there.
Edit: No need to what if this to death, might as well wait for him to confirm, gas or diesel.

The last IH Gas tractor Dad had on the farm was an IH 300U and that was traded in 1962, so no experience on the C-200 engines although you are correct, the water pump shaft looks similar design.

I apologize, closer examination shows the C200 water pump from Case IH does come with a hub on the shaft, so the pulley is removable.

When you have the bolts out of the fan, it and the pulley should come off the hub. It might take a bit of wiggling and tapping.

I have found most of the parts to put my 574 back together. Had a valve job done at machine shop, water pump replace, manifold replace, still need a FUEL PUMP. (oem#404 769 R91) Please give any suggestions as to where to locate one or maybe a rebuild kit.
Can someone give me some Torque information on all the bolts involved in this rebuild? Such as the Head Gasket bolts, Manifold Bolts
,Water Pump Bolts and Valve Cover Bolts? Also need the back plate for the water pump (my old plate is very pitted and unusable).
Thanks in advance.

If no joy, have the back plate sand blasted, then brazed up flat, and surfaced to flat. Jim
