Strange thing,96 Ford Taurus(it is 20 years old)The radio quits working when you shift out of park. The memory still holds the time and the stations but the volume just quits.

Have to hit the passenger door to make the w/s wipers work in the truck? Hhhmmmmmm. Wear a white tee shirt, a black leather jacket, slick your hair back, and say , "Aayyy" when you do it from now on. Might impress the young girls!

Good luck to all!

Scott

That may actually work on the radio too! Always worked on the juke box for the Fonz!

LOL!

I can'tsleep and I'm having one of those crazy nights. Apologies to all. But it is funny, ain't it?

If you didn't care to follow the link, then the problem is almost certainly the trans range sensor, or manual lever position sensor ( TR/MLP ) Some people would still call this the neutral safety switch. When in start mode various accessories are shut down, radio, pretty sure the power windows, maybe locks etc. Anyway a common failure to these sensors is back feeding/shorting out the circuit causing the radio/accessories to think its in start mode.

A simple work around for this switch is simply unplugging the trans sensor, or maybe shifting into other gear ranges might provide a different result. This sensor is located on top of the trans about in the center slighty to the rear, right where the shift cable mounts, look right below the front of the master cylinder. Loosen the shift lever then shift to "N". Replace this sensor with shifter and trans in neutral. Sensor is adjustable but shuld be set for neutral, just try not to wiggle it when installing on shift rail.

One of the guys at work said his radio would work if you shut it off, put the car in gear, and turned the radio back on. Mine work fines that way.(and I really do not want to spend a dime on this car,I am trying to buy one of the company trucks coming off lease late this fall.)
