Calling the experts. My dad is a wheeler / dealer of all kind of collectables. Came across this a few years ago and held on to it. Didn't measure it but I'd say around 20" long and quite heavy, certainly solid. Anybody identify it?

When castings were poured, left over molten cast iron was used up to mold these. Harry Kline had an interesting article in Old Abe News many years ago about the variety of misc castings like this the factory had to make use of the small amounts left after a pour. I guess these were originally on the cast iron fences surrounding various Case properties in the Racine area............

dear Vet, do you know if these are quite rare or not too uncommon? Seems it might be fairly rare if only used on Case properties.

All of them I have have arrived unpainted. I bought several 8" ones from the family of a guy that worked at the Case foundry. They thought they were doing me a big favor, and sand blasted them. I painted those, and one 16". The rest I have left rusty.
