I'm restoring a WC and I replaced the sleeves, but when I checked the clearance of the lip of the sleeve against the head of the engine, it was .03 high. The manual says the lip should be from .002 to .004. Is this a major problem that will lead to leaking in the future? Thank for the help!

Have you pressed your liners in all the way. That seems a little to me. I've not had one that far off, you may have a thicker o-ring at the bottem and they may press on in is what I'm thinking.

Something is not right. Not all the way down or something under the lip holding it up.

When you put the sleeve in without the O rings you could turn it 360 degrees by hand right??

Some times the top O ring will not slip into place and tend to push the sleeve up. .030 would be in that range.

might not hurt to take a simple measurement on the lip of the sleve and make sure it was machined right and that is the right depth for where it insirts just a simple thing that u may have already looked at

Thanks for all the help, I pulled out the sleeves then ground out the block till the sleeves could rotate 360 degrees, and they fit perfect! Now I need to find where I can buy new o-rings for the sleeves. Anybody know where I could get them locally or will I have to order them because they are special? Thanks for all the help again!

NAPA, or the supplier of the sleeves can provide the O-rings..

Use plenty non-hardening Permatex ALL around the sleeve and web area of the block when you re-install the sleeves..will prevent future leaks..

I would think "Buna-N" O-rings would be plenty good..
