WC starter removal

When trying to remove a starter from a '45 WC, while prying, broke flange. Is there a preferred way to remove starter from a tractor that has set outside for many years? Am putting WD '45 motor in, it is my understanding that I need this nose piece that mounts in hogs head for a stronger WD starter.
Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.
I have one more WC with starter and don't want to ruin it.

Ahead of time, I'd start spraying your favorite penetrating oil around where the starter slides into the housing, then remove the mounting bolt and spray some into that hole. Give it a few days, might even LIGHTLY tap the starter in and to the sides slightly to break the bond. Rust is a strong critter!

#1 did you pull the lock bolt all the way out so you had it in your hands??
#2 you should not pry so hard as to brake things. Simple taps and a bit up pushing up and down and turning it a tad bit has always worked just fine for me and yes I have pulled more then one start off one that sat out side for years
