wd 45 final drive noise

I have 2 wd 45's, both have noise coming from both final drives in the rear wheels. I guess that is normal? any comment appriciated, thank you.

They are straight cut gears and will whine a little. The faster you go, the more they whine.

Most have never even had the oil level checked..much less changed...
May be a good idea to check the free-play (Back-Lash) on the top Gear on the Final Drive.
May need to adjust shims..
When you Jack the wheel up, there should not be a free-movement..like the stub-axle bearings are loose either..

Thanx Ron, their is backlash associated with the noise. I will see if my repair manual tells me.

I believe that if you need to adjust the shims on the Pinion, you only need to set the rear wheel OUT to full width and you can get to everything...

It would have been good if AC had put a drain in each lower Final Drive pan...!!!
