WD-45 Shifter Handle

Does anyone have good picture or diagram of the WD45 shifter and how it fits into the column? Does the 'pin' fit into the slot in the 'ball' in the middle of the shifter handle? If so, how does the 'pin' fit through the column?

My shifter just rotates in the shifter column.

The WD45 shifter has two pins, opposite of each other. Install them first, from the inside. Put some grease on them and they stay in place better while lowering the shift lever down over both of them. They are square and like to rotate if you are not careful.

JMS is correct. If your tranny has only one pin, it is likely a WD, not WD-45 The late WDs and all WD-45s had the helical cut gear tranny with the curved rather than straight shifter. That curved shifter causes additional stress in the pivot ball area which necessitated two pins to control the "twisting" action.

BTW- you can use a WD tower, drill through the existing hole to the other side, and install on a WD45, with the second square-headed pin. BTDT. Also bought a WD with a quarter-inch bolt, had the head ground square, and a nut on the outside to hold the pin/bolt in place to keep it stable while installing the shifter! Not a bad idea.

Thanks for the information. I"m including some pictures of the column, transmission, and shifter handle. Can someone illustrate where those pins go? It"s hard to see where they go since there are none in it at the moment.

By the way. I have confirmed this is a WD-45.

In the second picture you posted, you can see a little circular dimple in the metal towards the top of the shift tower? The pin goes on the inside of that point. And if it's got two pins, the other goes straight across from it.

Thank you very much!! Do I need to punch out that "dimple" from the inside to make room for the pin? Sorry for all the questions, but I just can"t seem to find a manual that illustrates the correct placements of the pins.

There should already be a hole on the inside... If there isn't, then I'm confused how it was even together in the first place.
