WD 45 Steering

Just Purchased a wd45, and the tractor has allot of steering play, and front wheels will wobble when encountering bumps in the road. Checked the worm gear, and top Steering gear, and there appears to be wear in the meshing of these two gears. My question is about where one could find these parts?, and would it be a good time to change out bearings and other parts, and if so, where to find these as well? Thank you, Greg Haddox.

Some of the wobble may be from a worn tapered bearing in the bottom of the front casting. They "scallop" out after many years of pounding on the tricycle front. More pronounced on blacktop than dirt. U-joint may also be worn. Should be plenty of gears in salvage yards. Bearings are available at AGCO or any bearing house.

U Joint on the right side of tractor appears to be good. When you have someone turn the wheel there is about a quarter turn worth of play, and you can see the worm gear turn and the top sector gear turn slightly before the wheels begin to turn. I"ll check for bearing availability locally, but if you know of a good salvage yard pass that information along. Thanks,

You could also have play in the lower end- there is a keyway and key there. It would help if you"d list a location when asking for help. There are salvage yards all over the country. Mark Heitman in WI specializes in AC. Larry Swenson in Easton, MN also deals in AC. 888-845-8456 gives you 11 yards in the Worthington Ag system. There are hundreds of others, as well as collectors. WC was a very common tractor, and it shares the same front end of WD and WD45- that"s over 400,000 units.
