wd 45

Hello, i have a wd 45 year unknow.my dad recieved this tractor after his dad died and now my dad gave it to me after he owned it for more than 18 years.so im totally green on these tractors and gonna ask some questions.and i thank you in advance.
okay i see a gauge that says "traction booster"
can anyone highlite me on what this is and how it works,but the guage is old and broken.
also can you get weights for the front end as it likes to pull up and scare the day lights out of me?
it has the narrow front end tri cycle is it possible to put a wide front end on this tractor?

Yes you can get weights and yes you can put on a wide front end. Now as to it being a WD45 or a WD you need to look at it. Sorry theres 100s of WDs sold each year being called WD45 and they aren't what there sold as. To be sure it is in fact a WD45 you need to find the serial number which is on the left side of the rear end just under the brake cover. Next look at the engine, does it have a plate on the right hand side of the engine that bolts on. If it does then its a WD/WC engine makeing it more likely to be a WD not a WD45. Next is the shifter stright or does it have a little curve to it. If curved its a very late WD or a WD45. Side by side the WD and WD45 look the same to most people and only the ones that know what to look for know the difference

Hey Jeff
You mentioned that WD front end comes up and things get scary. Just what kind of a load are you pulling? Also some things to consider are the height and length of the drawbar. You might take a line of sight from the front mount of the drawbar to the hitch point of whatever you are pulling, if the hitch pin in the drawbar is much higher than these two points it may explain why the front end comes up so easily. As you are pulling hard the line from the front drawbar anchor, the hitch point on the drawbar and hitchpoint on the pulled object will be a straight line. Those old A.C.s weren't all that light in the front, sounds like some adjustments may be in order here.

i am pretty sure it is a wd 45 when grandpa bought the tractor in the early sixties it says its a wd45 i have the recipt when bought the tractor but doesnt say the year though.it still has the original wd45 sticker on the radiator shroud very faded though.but i will look at every thing you mentioned and i thank you for your time,jeff

i was pulling a 2 bottom plow when she try to pull up on me,i was in some ruts to maybe that had something to do with it.also i went up my driveway that goes to my barn and the drive has a lil bit of a grade and she pull up on the hill and that was the scariest one there it was like she was climbing the gears. thank you for all the help and i will be around with more questions,Jeff.

Ya that decal is another thing people change to make them look like a WD45 when in fact they are WDs. I've even been to shows and seen more then one WD with all the decals saying they where WD45s and the poor guy didn't even know it was infact a WD. Got a guy mad at me a year or 2 ago because of that and he argued about it for a long time till I pointer out why he was wrong and how to tell the difference in the 2. I was lucky there was a true WD45 sitting just a few tractors down and I pointed out why his was a WD not a WD45. Now what gets worse is you can have a WD45 tractor but have a WD engine because they will bolt right in so you need to run the numbers etc. etc. to see if you also don't have a mutt tractor built form parts. I have one or 2 of them. Nothing wrong with them as far as using but can't be resrored as such

The reason I have pointed out all this stuff is because I have seen way to many WDs sold as WD45 and theres about a 10HP difference in the 2 of them and the WD45 had updates that made them just a little better then the WDs. I own one of each and as I said side by side they look the same
