Possibly running very lean, pull spark plugs and learn to "read" condition.

A heat source is igniting the incoming fuel/air mixture . It could be the spark plugs themselves if they are a high heat range plug.

Good chance you have some carbon build up which makes hot spots so when you shut it down the engine spins over a bit and that in turn pulls gas into the engine and the hot spots cause the gas to burn so it trys to keep running. I'd put 1 qt. of ATF into 3gal of gas and run it

I agree.
Seen carbon buildup do that on old Chevy trucks back in the 50's.
My Dad used to pour a Coke bottle of kerosene in the carb on those old trucks while they were running and after a half bottle of kerosene was in it, he dumped the rest in and stalled it.
Turn key off and crank it the next morning.
Amazing amount of carbon came out the exhaust.
I let a Massey Harris suck a bottle of kero in the updraft carb one time.
Uuhhhh, make sure you wear old clothes if you do that.
I looked like an old time coal miner coming out of the mine.
ATF would work much better I think.

Let's get the shut off procedure correct first. You are closing the hand throttle clear down so the engine is idling very SLOW, right ??? because that's the first thing that has to be addressed if you aren't doing it like that.
