WD9 flooding.

On my WD9 it floods terribly on the gas side. It just pops sometimes and blows black smoke and wont start.I've put in a new needle and seat, and new float. Is there an adjustment to lean it back?Is there something else?It was starting good, then it got the flooding issue. Since it had sat so many years,I thought the float and needle/seat was the issue, asthe old needle is badly worn,it has a groove worn in it.

They do take a rich mix to fore up. But flooding is not good. A groove in the needle is duplicated in the seat with rounded seat contact. A new needle and seat is best. The float level will also be closer to spec when they are replaced. Wear lets the float get high. If it is getting black smoke, at least some cylinders are firing. Before trying to start it after the carb repair, I would heat the goofy spark plugs with a propane torch. Jim

Shut the gas off at sediment bowl once carb is full and try that. The needle is probably not holding. They take a lot of choke to start them. Once it fires on choke I open it then pull it back closed 1/2 way to the smoothest running then fully open it after about 15 seconds. And the engine speeds up on its own as it warms up. Mine switch over after one minute on gas. You do any adjusting with the air horn space. ?

Other than needle and seat there is not much to adjust on those carbs. Also those plugs if like in an MD are pretty pricey if you break one. The middle ones are tough to get out too. I think we used an open end wrench after we got them loose in the threads.

(quoted from post at 19:20:59 01/02/21) Do you trust your timing? and make sure your cap isn't 180 out. They flood and smoke black if they are.
