Weed tractors

Why do people let weeds grow up, over and into tractors? Let someone else have them or fix them. Please post your weed tractor photos.

I moved into a rental house in 1973 & noticed what I thought to be an A Model Ford in the neighbors shed across the road. I knocked on his door, introduced myself & asked if it was for sale. He said no, he bought it from the original owner 10 years ago & planned to restore it.....when he got the time & money. He said it was a 32 Ford & that I could go look at it. Well, it was not only a 32....it was a V-8 Victoria. 100% original.

I lived there for 5 years & all that was done to that car was it got more boxes & crap piled on it & in it. Up to the year I moved....when the car disappeared.

It was stolen right out of the shed.

My '45 2N sat in the weeds with trees growing up though it for about dozen years while I was building our house and raising a family, both of which kept me pretty broke. Had a couple offers to sell, but didn't. Finally my oldest son ( a tractor lover since he was a toddler) built a fire under me to get it going again. Now , thanks to him and this group, it's the heart of my operation. Sorry, no pic.

My 9000 had been in the weeds for seven years when I bought it, but the weeds had grown only three feet high and it started right up. But, I think maybe you should cut people a little slack because Bittersweet, which we never had until a few years ago, will grow about three inches a day. So a tractor could be totally hidden in just three weeks.

Looks like a Fergie.
Think about it:
It's not that much money.
Maybe a $1000 old tractor?
How many $1K sets of tools, outboard motors, sets of books, pieces of jewlery, suits, stereo systems, pieces of art, stamp collections, dishware, antiques or computer items sit around and never get used.
Ask your wife if she would give away or sell off grandma's china or her mom's wedding ring "because she never uses them"
I say it's fine to inquire about an old tractor sitting in the weeds.
But I also think it's wrong to have any resentment if the owner prefers to let it sit right where it is.

I didn't get any pictures of my 640 when/where I bought it.
The owner said it had been run last year, but the weeds around
it were 5 feet tall, the entire tractor was green with lichens and
I found a snake skin on the engine where a snake had molted.
I think it had been more than a year.
It runs and works now though and without too much work.
I'm working on it/testing it in this picture.
I'm glad he chose to sell it.

Sometimes the weeds are so bad even standing next to it it's hard to tell the make and model. Anyone want to venture a guess what this one was?

That is a Ferguson TO30. Has anyone tied to rescue it?

Here is a picture of my Farmall Super H before I bought it.

Given that it is mostly underside cast iron that the weeds are coming up against, I'd say it hardly matters -- especially not as much as having the gages and electrical covered and the rear axle blocked up.

Now my old cars are another story. I found that if I let them sit out, then the grass comes up to meet the rocker panels and the floor and holds moisture there rusting things out. so now if I have a car sitting out, I routinely sythe the grass out from under the rockers.

this tractor a friend tried to sell me but when he told me that the oil pressure dropped to zero when hot, I passed on it in favor of my jubilee.
