a previous post about string trimmers got me thinking about these clippers pictured
I have had many types of string trimmers over the years
electric cord, battery powered and gas ones both 2 & 4 stroke
best one so far has been my Toro 4 stroke now going on 8 yrs
in my opinion it's been better than my Still 2 stroke
but back too my pics
does anyone still use these trimmers
they always worked required very little maintenance just sharpen and a little lube at the connecting points
they were always ready to work could lay around for yrs and work right away
didn't need charging or gas n oil
and unless you have a huge amount of trimming could get the job done faster neater and quieter than string trimmers also could be used to trim branches and hedges with out changing attachments
and still a lot cheaper to buy both of these than any good string trimmer
best of all you don't need to worry if you have ethenol or not in your gas

Ah! But the motor keeps losing compression and otherwise deteriorating over the years.

I have those hand operated trimmers but don't use them very often any more. I have over 40 trees plus bushes and hedge to take care of on a 2 1/2 acre yard. I replacd my 25 year old Poulan Weedeater with A Stihl FS-90. It has that 4-mix engine and it runs smoothier with a lot less noise. I trim my hedge with an electric hedge clipper. I have enough cord to run anywhere in the yard and just picked up a generator so I don't have to drag cords around any more.

I grew up running those "human powered" grass clippers. We had them that looked like sheep shears, we had them on wheels, we had every imaginable variation you can name I think. It all came down to hours and hours and hours of on your knees work and cramped hands. No thanks. I don't have a hedge in sight, but I do have about 5 string trimmers both gas and electric. I'm old fashioned, but I'll cling bitterly to the modern world in this case!

Developed really strong hands as a tad from using sheep shears for trimming around the yard; only lost the schoolboy "finger-test" game once to a kid that hand milked a dozen or do cows twice daily! Now use gas and occasionally electric trimmers, don't miss the sheep shears.
