Weight Bracket

I am in the process of building a Oliver 770 into a pulling tractor and I can?t decide if I want a weight bracket 10-15in out infront, or on the side of the tractor behind the front wheels i have mikes up a bracket but if I go that route I need to rework it. I used to have a 880 with a front bracket but I don?t know if I want to go that rout this time any input is much appreciated

What do your rules allow? The further forward the front weight is the more effective they are and the less you need to hang forward when necessary.

What weight class and how much movable weight do you have to work with also?

Thank for the input I know the father the better but I was wanting to experiment with my options and I have about 5,000lbs of suitcase weights and 3,500lbs in wheel weights

Most antique rules state no weights beyond 11ft from center of rear axle. That is where you want your front weights. Some guys get 4 weights sideways exactly 11 ft. But maybe you can win with your weights back a bit. Seen it happen. Have fun!

I would highly recommend putting the weights out in front. By going out front, as far as your rules allow, you are obviously increasing the effectiveness of the weight. That will allow you to use more wheel weights to help traction as you will now need less weight out front to keep the front end down.

I have a weight bracket out front on my 88, but most of the time I just stick a cultivator pipe in each hole of the frame and hang weights off of that. Cheap and easy. The 86 series IH weights have a big enough hole in the handle they slide right on. Try that in your weight classes and see how it goes.

Put weight bracket as far forward as rules allow but also put brackets midships. Then you can fine-tune weight balance so front tire just dances.
