Welder/generator/compressor

Back in the state finally!! raptor lined the pit cover yesterday out back and had a chance to use the sled as we call it. Couple days before I left I had a rogator die on the road while I had the little trailer with tanker and cone up on the flatbed pickup. From the worst possible situation to fairly well equipped service truck (minus a crane) this sled makes it happen in 20 minutes.

It’s nothing fancy we just stuck a bunch of things together and it worked well we are looking for some sort of small tractor toolbox that would mount on it as I noticed the other day I had the tools I needed for the task (air hammer) but I had at that point 30 miles from home all kinds of air compressor but no tire chuck!!!! or even a blow gun. Something could be mounted nice on the side.

It’s had a couple issues with operating mostly due to it not being used enough

They were both auction finds the compressor got a new electric motor so a bit of money was spent there but it kept it out of the scrap heap. the welder did not run when we got it and was sitting next to one that did with only one person interested apparently. It got a new carb and a couple years later coils

Nice!! Did something similar with our shop truck. The welder just didn't have output to properly drive the air compressor though. I removed the motor from the compressor. I cut he back out of the right front cabinet, placed the welder front in the hole, Mounted the compressor above the welder, added a sheave to the welder to drive it, and a belt system that I could engage from the cabinet. Hung the welder cable in the cabinet. Hung a retractible hose reel inside the rear doors, built a little crane, out of 2x2 box tube on the other side, hung a 1/2 ton 12 volt winch on it. A real time, and back, saver. Wasn't long and every shop truck in the fleet had similar set ups.

Nice!! Did something similar with our shop truck. The welder just didn't have output to properly drive the air compressor though. I removed the motor from the compressor. I cut he back out of the right front cabinet, placed the welder front in the hole, Mounted the compressor above the welder, added a sheave to the welder to drive it, and a belt system that I could engage from the cabinet. this one does have enough juice to run ours and it even will do it on its little auto mode the compressor will pop off then you hear the engine idle down once the loads gone I’ve started it on the way to a job before and it’s just purring along at an idle when I get there.

I use the welder side infrequently enough to carry the cable out (usually out at the pasture or someone else’s place) but that is a good idea maybe I need a bigger box there’s certainly room on either side then the cables could stay with it

Much more often that I use the air compressor and the generator side beats running a long extension cord even if it’s just something that needs 120v

I’ve also debated attaching a power reel but I think the tool box is more important and they don’t give the decent reels away the only reason there is an air one attached is someone ordered a size too small for what they wanted to do

It is quite loud is it’s other downfall at full throttle they can hear you a ways away

I ran the exhaust through a small muffler, and out through the floor of thje truck, when we switched it over to the diesel, with a stack, I routed it into that. Thats a nice set up you built.

finished out a can yes and had some yellow too now it just needs some 30 series decals of some sort the panels were pretty beat up something big from the previous owner had more or less landed on the sheet metal the little plastic fuel pump and a fitting going into the carb so no it’s not red anymore like it should be

That's a thoughtful, excellent, build. Beats going out and spending tons of money for a welder/compressor like the big Miller machines.
