Last spring was moving my mller wire welder in shop. Plastic formed handle snapped off and i landed in floor. Fracture 2 vertebrae in back. No surgery and 12 weeks later all was well. Finally got around to fixing handle. If mller had did it like this from factory it would not have snapped. Used 1/4 x 1 flat and 1/2 in black pipe. Covered the pipe with 1/2 foam insulation. Got to get some black paint to finish.

Well done improvement on a poor original design. There is really no excuse for pathetic components. Jim
When you look at the face of welder you can see where original pulled apart. Of course handle is no longer available. And i would not want another like it anyway.

Weird question but are you left handed?

I have the same welder. Note to self, careful with the handle. Thanks
Bought it new in 2007. Never been mis treated. Was pulling it over a rise in shop door and handle just snapped. Always thought there was a metal bar molded into the plastic frame. I was very wrong. Knowing what i know now, i would suggest you add a new metal handle now. It was a simple fab job.

Well yes in a way. Write left handed. Do everything else right handed. Can weld and write either way. And my question is why do you ask?
Because when you fabbed it up, you didn't put a bar on the left side so you could slip your hand in to pull it with your dominant arm, which would be left handed. (I assumed)
...
Just now realized that the panel flips up on that side to change out wire, so that's why you did it that way, not necessarily using one dominant arm. My bad.

Also sorry for your injuries and nice work!

You are correct. Panel flips to change wire which does not allow any way to secure handle. The places i used secures to frame. Figure it will be fine. Only way to secure is on right side. Always been left handed but do everything but write with my right. Was placed in a certain 1st grade teachers room because other teacher whipped anyone that wrote left handed. Parents knew she would beat me to death. I can write with right hand if i have to. Can weld with either hand.
