I have a large auto-darken window. I don't weld much any more, but it seems to work well with my prescription line-less classes.
The large window seems to give you room to find the right place to focus/line up.

The Airgas-brand Radnor hoods use 3M technology in 5 different cost-effective options, depending on what your specific needs are and how many features are important to you. Maybe you are already a gas customer of theirs. Humbly suggest checking them out by Googling Airgas with your city and state. Tell them A.J. with 3M sent you

I bought this off Amazon in 2020.
I wear my reading glasses.
I like the shades,
I need less shade using my mig, vs stick welder
$80.

YESWELDER Large Viewing Solar Powered Auto Darkening Welding Helmet, True Color Highest Optical 1/1/1/1, 4 Arc Sensor Wide Shade 4/5-9/9-13 Welder Mask Hood with Grinding for TIG MIG MMA Plasma

I have an old black cardboard like helmet I use with the little 2x4 looking lens I wear glasses behind it to weld. I can't see the puddle without the glasses.

had a harbor freight hood and could never get it where I could see.. Changed to a lincoln hood and now can see much better. Still a bit hard to see welding the the dark shop areas... for my old eyes. Actually found out that I weld much better when I can see the puddle as well as the arc.

I love my Miller Elite. Pretty pricey but the large window and the holder for clip in cheater lenses is nice (I don t need them yet but it s there)

Weldcote brand, big screen, will take a magnifier, grind mode, replaceable battery with solar charge. Amazon was $140.oo. The only reason I did not buy one last week was the two flat tires on the left side of my 656. The rear repair was $225.00(not too bad)n And I haven't looked for the front one yet(been busy)

(quoted from post at 07:40:42 10/19/22) Still use a twenty six year old Jackson EQC

Jackson EQC Executive HTLS, got it in 1995 and still use it regularly. Great unit.

I also have several HF helmets as well and they work fine also just smaller window area. The HF are good for assistants / kids watching and learning. Or sometimes if I'm actually teaching someone they get the EQC and I take an HF to watch what they're doing.

Don't go cheap. Only one pair of eyes. Stick with a name brand. Lincoln, Jackson, Esab, Miller. Even the Yesweld has good reviews. I have a Jackson. With infinite settings. Anywhere from doesn't change at all to so dark even at 200 amp stick you can't see through it. I use it for 120 volt wire feed, stick and plasma cutting. Has a 3.25 x 4 lens and diopter lens that I put in. I wear lined bifocal glasses. Really have to lean back to weld with them on. Wore cheap readers till I got the diopter lens. If you do get a lens, get glass. A little more $, but worth it. Each manufacturer has several different price levels. Mine is Jackson translight 555 is $204 from Amazon, 0ver 400 at Grainger. I weld a lot though.
Jackson

I have transition lenses in trifocals. Very bad combination. I went back and bought lenses the dont have transitions to do close work so to speak . My jobber has lense magnifying for age groups to chose from .

I have photo grey lenses in my glasses so when I weld I can't see the puddle. So I bought a cheap pair of reading glasses that I wear when I weld these days. I can see the puddle a lot better and don't worry about spatter or anything ruining my good glasses. I kinda stumbled onto this after I had my cataracts removed and had the reading glasses till my eyes were ready for my new prescription. I just keep a glass case on my rod oven and always have the readers handy that way. I don't need the cheaters now after the surgery. You might want to try them, they worked for me. Keith

Speedglas. Not cheap. Neither is my eyes. Has room for magnifier. Can adjust shade for welding amperage.

Welp i am still usen my as i call it PICTURE WINDER one and my cheaters . due to the fact i can weld far enough away due to arm shorting with out my cheaters and the big glass helps a ton .

One thing I have learned is to back light what you are welding I use a double 500 watt haligen shure helps seeing the work and were im welding
