Welding table ( a bit long)

Ohio Case

Trying to get the shop a little more orginized, trying to group the torches, welders, cutoff saw, grinders all in one area. I've got a 6' welding table that I would like to mount the grinders and cut off saw on, but it will also have a vice that I will be putting things in to weld with the arc welder. Will the Arc welder screw up the grinders and cut off saw?

To each his own........my welding table is almost 50 years old and one of the first things I built when we got a welder. Don't won't anything permanently mounted to it except a vise........and it's not the 'good' vise.

I would not mount a cut-off saw to a table or any surface. one of the advantages of that type of saw is it's portability. If you end up buying your stock (tube, angle exc.) from a steel house it will come in 'sticks' 20 or 24 feet long and supporting the loose end while cutting a foot or two off is a pia.
Much easier to set the cutoff saw on the floor and feed the stick in.

My biggest concern was the the elctricity going through the leads and the table when using the arc welder would screw up the windings or contols for the other stuff

Someone on one of these forums made a welding table and used 2" recever tubing to mount grinders, vise, pipe benders, & ETC. That way they could be removed to use as a table alone. If I build one that is the way I will go.

That won't be a problem. Insulate any receptacles that may be mounted to your table from direct contact to the table. Simply laying a power tool on the surface won't bother anything, even while you're welding.

You will not hurt any of your tools because of welding on the same table but, Doing it that way will cause you other problems like not having enough room to work. I have a table for the chop saw and a welding table with a steel top and a vise. Plus have another chop saw that has a handle on it so I can move it as needed. Sure wish I had the table I sold for a friend. It had a 1/2 inch thick top on it and was set up with places to hang C clamps etc on it

I would be way more concerned about metal filings and slag getting into the motors and windings. As long as everything is grounded you will be fine electrically.
Also do not arc against the rotating portion of anything if the ground is to the case. The ground path will be thru the bearings and ruin them!

I put a roller on the table of an old drill press for a variable height support. Works good for the cutoff saw and also for holding up one end of long pieces for drilling in the drill press.
