I was trying to drill out a bolt out of a channel of iron. I was refine down on the drill press real hard and the table support broke. It’s an old harbor, freight drlll press that I’ve had for many years. I guess it’s called a central machinery. Been looking on the Internet and sounds like it’s been discontinued and there’s no parts avaliable. Does anybody know of a source for this part? I know they have some newer models that you can still get the part. I’m hoping they’re interchangeable. I’ll have to go out and look at a new drill press at Harbor freight and see if the diameter is the same. It’s been a good grill press, and everything works out good except for the broken part. It’s cheap cast-iron. I don’t think it can be repaired and still be strong. i’m just glad it didn’t fall on my foot break a toe.

This may help. I broke a part on a Grizzly metal band saw. Part was discontinued. I looked at parts manual for my model and current model and discovered they had the same spec. Ordered and fit fine. New part number but same old part. I suspect you may discover the same true for your press.

Couple of weeks ago I posted about trying to drill out a stainless steel bolt. Well, I finally got around to trying to drill it out. I bought some new cobalt drill bits. lowered the drill speed to the lowest it would go. No luck. I refed down on it a little too hard, and the table broke. I tried cutting a hole in the bolt with a diamond tip Dremel tool. It didn’t touch it. I finally got a 4 inch grinder with a cut off wheel and cut the bolt flush on the backside. Cut a slot in it like a screwdriver slot. I pounded on the bolt till it broke loose and was able to work it out with a screw driver. I didn’t do too much damage to the frame or the paint. But I sure messed up the drill press.

Braze it up , you’ll be fine again .
I might try brazing it as a last resort. My brother-in-law said he could try welding it. The material is just so thin and a low quality. I think brazing would be a better option. It wasn’t very strong to begin with, and if I do braze it, it’ll even be weaker. I’m hoping to find a part for it

i think braze is best , the psi rating isn’t that much lower than the busted cast Iron quaily of that piece in my opinion.
I brazed the base of a busted arbor press with the advice of a welding instructor at community college . Turned out fine. I could never afford that type of arbor press , he said it was doable so we did. With his advice ..
it’s busted so it’s worth the efforts, what I say .
lookslike cast welded would be very difficult preheated ,,stress risers in shap corners ,slow cool down in lime ,

That is kinda dumb on Grizzlies end for not offering it as a replacement for the old part number.
Like IH did, use old number with a R1, 2 ,3 etc.

If the weld is free its ok, if you scored another part for free thats ok, might even retro something but first finding then the cost, would save the working gear from the old for parts or salvage etc and bet new isnt all that much more than the part,, and is ALL new. Might even shop for something I liked as good or better.

After brazing it back together I might look at adding a reinforcement "steel cage" around it.

And an adjustable crutch under the table to the floor, lol.

It would not be hard to fabricate a new one out of some pipe for the column and some more for the table with some tabs on the column side for the gear and crank.

I have never used the table tilt feature so I would not build it with tilt.
