Well roof

Miss Candy wanted a roof over the well. Today my brother & I made it happen. There will be more to come with a pulley and bucket. Also an automatic set up to water her humming birds & yellow finches.

It is all cedar so it really has a nice smell

Looks good.And yes cedar does smell good. My dad has the cedar chest moms dad built for her many years ago. Probably about 60 or80 years ago.

The 4 foot hole is only about 10 feet deep but the seeping artisan well that feeds it is 1000 to 1500 feet deep. So we have a drain field hauling off the seeping water. It is mainly just for looks. We had to hide the Unsightly well cover" as Miss Candy put it.

reminds me of them old hand dug wells from years ago with the wood cribbing. my grand parents had three of them on their farm. we even had one here when dad bought this farm. that is where the cream and meat was stored as that was the farm fridge. rope and pulley system with a pail, and also to water the cows was the same way. did not have power back then.

Finishing touches; Got the old bucket & iron pulley under the roof and got the windmill up today as well. This winter I'm going to try to make a new antique wooden bucket.

That was one of the options but that iron pulley just jumped at the chance to get out of the storage shed. LOL
