Went to Harbor Freight today.

I think the second time in the 14 years
I've lived here. It's only a mile away -
right next to Dong Yang where I buy our soy
and hoisin sauces.
I had called the autobody supply outfit
near me to get a set of brushes to do a
deep clean on my paint gun. The guy said
they were out of the brush kits.
I asked him where. He said Harbor fright.
I told him it was against my religion to go
there. He said I hear ya man. I belong to
the same religion.
So I went to HF and then Dong Yang.
HF stank like hot rubber. I came prepared
for the worst tho. Mask and welders safety
glasses.
Kinda glad I wore the face coverings.
Doubt anyone would recognize me in that
get-up.
I always buy this brand of soy sauce so I
know it's good. Wish I had as much
confidence in my other purchase...

Like many have said. Some harbor freight stuff is cheap junk. Other stuff is actually quite good. I bought one of their 42 inch bottom tool boxes last winter and am very happy so far. Their tool boxes are actually have great reviews on the net. I think youll be just fine with the brush set. Im not a soy sauce conneseur, I just use what ever is in the house ! Im guessing the flavoring is different ?

How does thay soy sauce taste? I'm always on the lookout to find one to try & dethrone my favorite & it's not happened yet. The one I use is big on flavor & not so on salt. The flavor just has that brewed taste to it, like a bock beer that's a little nutty. Very good!

Well,
I must admit, the 19 piece HF kit was less than $5 and did the job. Had to laugh though as 8 of the 19 pieces were tooth picks :)
Got it pretty clean. It Was pretty gummy inside and wasn't spraying right.
I even cleaned off most of the nastyphilis that was spilled all over the exterior.
Gun hasn't looked this nice in years.
Am hoping to paint some fenders this weekend so we'll see.

Don't think I've tried that brand but know what you mean by a nutty flavor. Might have to look for it as I like the low sodium idea.
A typical North American guy doesn't give much thought to soy sauce but there are a lot of different flavors of the stuff. If you go to an asian grocery store they'll have nearly a dozen brands and flavors. I have always eaten a lot of rice - much more than pasta or potatoes. It is probably the cheapest form of carbohydrates you can buy - or maybe flour is less? I kinda discovered this by accident. Went in to an asian food store and asked to buy their best selling brand. Liked it and just stuck with it.

I stopped at HF today too. Bought some hair clippers for $9.99. Replacing the one I bought there several years ago ,when I decided to try cutting my own hair. I wore a mask too. As mentioned some good values there and some things of lower quality.

Those cheap purple ones are great. I have about 5, one new and never used. I use them for primer and some base coat. Haven't shot much clear with them. I haven't used a siphon gun in years.

That being said, I recently bought a green HVLP one for $25. I'm not sure what the problem is, but I can't get enough air to go through it, no matter how it's adjusted. I've completely disassembled it, thinking there might be some manufacturing defect, but I couldn't find any.

The instructions say inlet air pressure 29 lbs., where the usual for HVLP is 43 lbs. At 29 lbs. inlet air pressure, hardly any air goes through it, even with it adjusted wide open. I haven't given up on it, but I'm scratching my head.

But, I have other guns to use. Last time I counted, I had 11 HVLP guns in the shop. I finally put a half dozen in a box and stashed them out of the way.

I was at our local HF store this morning. I needed some 5 cut-off discs with a 7/8 bore. $12 for pack of 10 and they last just as long as the Dewalt ones Oerscheln's charge several dollars apiece for.

Also bought a set of 12 point, 3/8 drive sockets I've needed. Tried out the 1/2 one this afternoon on some rusted bolts on a Chevy pickup. If it had any weak spot, I would have found it.

I would go to Hf before I step foot in any oriental place. the smell of the ones I've been in is enough for me to gag.

I don't like the Chinese food spices. some may be ok but even the grocery isle with all that stuff makes me sick

Nope.
I don't mind if you buy them there.
Won't put you down for it.
But I will continue to buy good tools.
I will buy used. I will pay 3 times as much for USA tools if need be.
To me a tool is not just a means to an end.
Tools have intrinsic value - in and of themselves.
Maybe I'll have it on my grave stone.
'He bought good tools'
PS
I don't buy any kind of tool at Menards either.

Goose,
Please tell me where I even hinted that I need to approve of where others buy their tools.
I don't give a rat's nose what you buy.
If HF stuff suits you but it.
I think Hf stuff is retrograde crap that enriches our enemy so I don't buy stuff there.

Sounds like you like that place.
HF gets a lot of positive reviews here.
Are those slow news days too?
Maybe learn to take the bad reviews with
the good ones...

Y'all realize that HF is an American company right? You realize that each and everyone of you could crawl into a cave with your 100% American made products and no one would miss you.
You realize that with it's amazing success that HF no longer has to buy the scrap offered on the open market. HF specs its own tools and products, and determines its own quality.
Nota dang thing wrong with Predator engines,Badland winches etc.
Would it be sweet to have everything manufactures CONUS,sure ,but it ain't gonna happen!

Someone tried to get more manufacturing here but no we
couldnt have that . I use a lot of harbor freight tools they are
as good as any tool you can buy that doesnt come off a truck
. I cant afford tool truck tools for what I do anymore

:)

A long time ago I read 'Zen and the Art of
Motorcycle Maintenance' by Robert Pirsig.
Among other things, he talked about Quality
and how the idea of quality varies from
individual to individual. That makes the
the idea of quality undefinable. And
because it is undefinable, it is
unattainable.
But he also said that we should NEVER stop
searching and working for quality in our
lives.
I think that quality tools can come from
many places. I am selective but don't only
own USA tools.
I also think that guys like you don't give
a hoot about some high falutin notions
about quality, or enriching our enemies or
supporting jobs in your own neighborhoods
or those of our allies. I think you buy HF
tools because they are the cheapest damn
things you can buy.

Guessing thats a Devilblisss JGA-502, in the right hands one of the finest paint guns ever made.

I still have 4 of them plus a few parts guns on either hand pots or pressure pots.
