What’s the difference?

Concerning the radiator in my ‘53 Super C. It leaks and the tag number is 356356R92. The oem numbers I have found online that a new one will replace end in R94 and R96. So what’s the difference and will one of the new replacements swap with mine? The upper tank seam is leaking I’m going to try to get it fixed. I need to know my options.

Generally with IH parts the "R" suffix followed by a number is the revision number. So a part with an "R94" Suffix is a later version than one with "R92". IH loved to go through and renumber parts too, so there may be no actual difference between the parts, just a part number revision.

Be careful to measure everything carefully between your old radiator and any new ones. I've seen advertisements for aftermarket radiators that list them as being for A's, B's, C's, and Super C's. That can't be correct because a Super C radiator is about 2 inches taller and has a 2 1/2 " upper inlet and a radiator for an A, B, etc is shorter and has a 2" upper inlet. Not interchangeable. Just make sure you know what you are ordering.

I would try to find a good radiator shop to fix the old one, if possible. If you can find a radiator shop, I know that they are getting scarce.

Thanks for the info. My old go to radiator shop closed its doors. I may try it myself since it is the tank seam.

Second red Dave's post. They might even fit all right but if you have the old winged radiator cap it most likely won't line up. Everything else is right on the one I bought and you could get that indexed if you really really wanted to the radiator shop guy might look at you like you were crazy but if you can rebuild yours rebuild.
