What a Shame.

That SC is "Showroom"!! Complete w/ nice fenders & CASE Mag.!! Not a tractor that a sane person would part out. A real shame.

John,
Do you think that the SC was all original, right down to the paint, or was it an older restoration that someone spent hour upon hour making it look that way? Then along comes mister scrapper and tares all that good work apart.

The buyer of the parts from a nice machine such as this should take some of the accountability as well. Unless the seller was absolutely unreasonable to deal with, and sometimes that is the case, the folks who are picking this thing apart should know better. That's just my two cents. There is always more to the story.

The same folks that cut apart awesome turn of the century magazines so they can sell a couple of ads at a flea market. I've a neighbor that destroyed some early poultry books (l860s) because of the color plates in them, felt he made more $ by razoring them out and framing the pages. Ugh! Same with eqpt as we're seeing. I've a friend that had the neatest short wheelbase ton and half Ford Farm truck, with a wood grain box and hoist, he sold the cab to a guy building a street rod and scrapped the rest. Running flathead and all. You just want to scream sometimes.......................

Maybe they are sick of working on it trying to keep it running. I know this year I've spent far more time working on my Case than using it and it's still wanting more attention.

Some have told me they can get more by parting it out. Never understood that as you end up with a carcus and many parts don't bring in much money. Add in your labor to dismantle too.

(quoted from post at 16:58:28 11/25/17) I don't know, but when was the last time anyone has seen a complete, good looking set of cultivators like that?

Someone old enough might remember when they were new, but seeing a set like that is virtually unheard of.

We had the same kind of trouble in the watchmakers forums. People wanted to rob parts from a good watch to fix up their train wreck of a watch they were trying to repair. They didn't want to take the time to learn the skills to do a correct repair. The same thing with these antique tractors. We are beginning to run out of historical numbers matching examples of these great machines.

ine too, but I bought it expecting that. I think it'll always be a work-in-progress.

You should eventually get things squared away with your tractors. As times goes by you'll learn all the little tricks that will make your tractors run trouble free.

My wife never understands why I buy tractors that need to be worked on right away. Number one is it's hard to find a perfect used tractor, and number two is I'd be disappointed if I don't have something to tinker with.

I agree will all that have posted. But a fellow we all know well and respect said it best. At the end of the day. It is mine to admire, or to do with as I please. You may now chew me up,and spit me out. CM

I have parted out tractors that looks that nice, but not until I tried to sell it complete with no success. The market for old tractors is in the tank,
and especially letter series tractors. The generation that grew up on those is dead or dieing out. Any younger folks getting into tractors want
what they grew up on and that's not letter series tractors, it's a 4020, 706, 730, etc. And yes, they are worth much more as parts than complete.
A running, working tractor that might bring $1000-1200 will part out for twice that easy and you still have a $300-$500 carcus left. Been at it for
several years on the side and I'm not telling you what i've heard, I'm telling you what i've done.

Looks like someone bought it to cannabilize the tires. I'm
seeing times where I can buy a tractor with good rubber
cheaper than tires and rims.

I agree with you guys, that SC looks way to nice to parts. That picture brought back lots of memories , as dad had a 43 SC & cultivator that was almost a match with this one . I ' plowed ' lots of corn with it when I was a teenager. Some good memories, some not good! clint

That's a shame, a bad one, I would have liked to have all of it. But to long a trip out there to get it for me.
And I don't believe this new trend, that those that collected this vintage is dying out is a line of crap, sure maybe less money out there, or maybe asking to much.

I agree John. But I better keep my trap shut, I do know if I had that unit, I wouldn't have any problem selling it whole, none.

But I would have never sold that jewel.

I saw this tractor on Facebook. He tried to sell it complete, but got sick of the no-money, low ball, tire kickers. He sold the rear tires for almost as much as he wanted for the tractor. Seems like he got another $150 out of the cultivator. No idea on the engine price.

Probably paid too much for it in the first place. If you buy something like this SC to flip, you need to be patient for a serious buyer to show up, and price it right. If you need to have a fast turn over to keep the cash flow moving you shouldn't buy tractors like the SC in the add.

What's so wrong with a hand clutch?
