What browser to replace IE with???

I use IE-11. I do not like to have to use icons or pictures. I learned how to read and like doing things that way. LOL I am seeing that IE-11 is not good enough for several of the sites I visit.

I have Firefox on my computer. I hate it. I just want my home page to be the site I chose it to be. I do not need ten pictures of things that I am not interested in. I do not need to see things I did yesterday or photos that I saved.

I see Microsoft Chrome and Edge. Which would be closest to IE??? Are either of them close???

I have quit using a lot of programs I used to use daily. Example is any of the Microsoft Office programs. I will "buy" a program but be damned If I am going to "rent" one. If I do not find a browser that "fits" me I will just quit the internet. It would free up a lot of time. LOL

It's easy to make Firefox have the homepage you want it to have.

I'm using Brave right now, but this is my Firefox homepage. Every time I open a new tab, it opens to this as well. Sent you an email.

Neither of them are much like Internet Explorer but
I think Chrome is better than Edge. The new version
of Edge is based on Chromium that is based on Chrome.

I tried Edge for a few hours tonight and hated it. Trying to set my home page set was frustrating. Finally got it to show a homepage button but never did get it to open with my home page. Edge kept opening with Microsoft's Bing. Then trying to do PC work without a command bar was an exercise in futility. Uninstalled Edge so I will have to try another browser.

I hate how all the focus is on hand held stuff now. I am a PC user an I guess we are out of luck with new programs.

It's a lot of what you get use to and for me how versatile it to setup the way I want. I switch between Google Chrome, Firefox, and the new MS Edge. The new Edge is based on Chromium which is the same inner-workings as Chrome and Brave. I use extensions/add-ons that only work on browsers base on Chromium. Firefox is based on Gecko as is Sea Monkey.

All that said I'm liking the new Edge. You can get it for Windows 10, 8, and 7 at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge

Firefox, with a little tinkering you can make it pretty close to the same look and feel of IE. None of the others will even come close.

I use Chrome. To be honest I never actually set up a home page so I don't know what it's like. Mine is a blank screen with the header and a small box in the center with 6 frequent sites I visit. I'm old school too.

BTW, your old office program will work just fine on Windows 10. I installed mine on the better half's laptop. Had to drag the icons to the top of the screen so it would be in the same place as Windows 7.

Is the default home page your only complaint with Firefox? That's easily fixed.

Select Edit->Preferences from the menu.
Click "Home".
Under "New Windows and Tabs", change "Firefox Home (Default)" to "Custom URLs...".
You can then select whatever URL you want to be your home. Or you can choose "Use Current Pages" so that all your favorite sites pop up as tabs when you start Firefox.

As for Microsoft Office, many folks have switched to LibreOffice.

It appears that MS if forcing users away from IE using various means to do so.

I still use IE but it appears that my days are numbered.

I tried Edge but found myself unable to do routine, needed operations.

If things get bad enough, I too will simply abandon use of a PC.

I've had just about enough.

You can set your home page to be anything you want. I have Firefox, and my homepage is set for "Bing". If I so desired, I could set my homepage to "Yesterday's Tractors".

The main reason MS is getting rid of IE is that it's kind of a security nightmare and can't easily be fixed.

As folks above already said, any of the three will work fine once you get them set up. It's also a good idea to use an ad blocker extension - my daily driver is Firefox with uBlock Origin.

I have IE and Firefox but use Firefox 90% of the time--I set up both to have the identical home page of Yahoo as i use there mail a lot--I add to my bookmarks all the internet websites i use a lot--YT,ACMOC, Google, etc,

Firefox for me. For home selection: click tools from the top of the screen, then options, then select whatever site you prefer.
Your second paragraph confuses me. the only time I see anything like that is when I open a new tab. It is just a quick way to go to an often-visited site.

I'm still using my copy of Office 2000, yes 2000, with windows 10. On my desktop machine I have office 2007, works fine too.

I'd like to get away from IE also.

However, I monitor our Internet usage daily with a program called Glasswire. I have Chrome installed, and it seems every time I use it for any amount of time the Internet usage goes through the roof.

(quoted from post at 08:56:19 02/05/20) I never had any luck with IE or Edge it crashes alot. I started with Netscape on windows 3.1 and now use Firefox. I do have Edge, Chrome and Brave installed. They all have their uses but Firefox I use 90% of the time

That really takes me back. I kinda miss using Netscape on my old Windows NT computer.

I have been using Firefox for years with little issue. Just switched from Google to Duck Duck Go for my search engine because it does not track what you search for and send advertisements. Firefox also has lots of add onn's to block a lot of adds.

use firefox 99% of time as i can run the free add blockers on it and eliminate 80% of the ads... the home page setting is still there, just have to find it.

I still keep ie around as I have a lot of security cameras and other devices that only work on IE due to older protocols (older java and adobe flash programs) and lack of security certificates, so only IE works well for these old devices that require outdated, non secure software to run.

(quoted from post at 05:23:51 02/05/20) I went from Firefox to Brave and like Brave much better. Chris
I will second you on the Brave browser and it is what Firefox should be. I find its really sluggish to the point where I keep hoping that each new update will bring a new experience with FF. So I probably will switch to Brave.
