What Engine is This? Not as advertised

I wonder how many of those gas start/ Diesel engines they made. Neighbor had one. Had to be tough on the spark plugs!

Was it just a gas engine more or less fitted up to diesel stroke and such?

The spark plugs were in an auxiliary chamber on top of the cylinder. With that chamber open the compression was low.

After it started a valve closed off the auxiliary chamber, raising compression to diesel levels.

Where did u come up with that idea? Its definitely a Massey Harris engine !as everyone has been saying

not so, the plugs could last the life of the engine, and the same with the magneto, as on the wd40 once on diesel the mag dont turn. that was one of the best ways to start a diesel engine. have it all warmed up then start it.

and if you just killed er dead on diesel you discover fuel on sparkplugs. had to show several how to shut them off. simply reverse starting procedure. blue diesel smoke will be thick for about 30 seconds.when smoke clears shut the engine off

The only tractor I ever drove with the gas start diesel engines in it was a nice MD. I wasn't familiar with the shut down procedure so I killed it on diesel which made it hard to start up the next time. Dad had a 400 diesel but he traded it for a new 4020 John Deere diesel when I was 8 years old so I'd never started it or shut it down. I remember sitting on it and pretending to operate the 400.

I did have a good time driving the MD.

20,22, 30, and 81 use 4 cyl Continental flatheds.

IAD6004-2E is for a flathead, I assume it got moved to large OHV.
