What Flex-Coupling To Use

I am replacing a single cylinder 16 HP BRiggs & Stratton engine on a Olathe Sweeper with a twin cylinder 18 HP Kohlor engine. Currently the engine and hydrostatic transmission is connected with 16 tooth roller-chain. I was told that I should replace the chain coupler with a flexible coupler.
The shaft on the engine is 1-1/8" bore with a 1/4" keyway and the transmission has a 1" bore with a 1/4" keyway. My question is, will a L 95 flexible coupling be strong enough for that application? Should I just keep the roller-chain application, been working for last ten years.

Did they say why you should replace the chain coupler?

My opinion is if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

AI says the L95 will handle the torque no problem, RPM may be a consideration but I doubt it.

good to read your still "making" work for yourself :), like the old folks say it ain't broke, don't fix it...here's a thought...we all question at times the arm chair experts on this site/others...the same time people trust AI to be the correct source of how to do stuff?? all taken with a grain of salt :) Keep your stick on the ice.

any diorama news over the past couple years? other fun stuff?

Being an old millwright, coupling alignment is essential to avoid vibration and wearing out of components. If the shaft sizes and key ways are the same and the coupling alignment can be accomplished, use what you have.

Most Oliver tractors are driven by the chain coupler you speak of, works for them.
I’d say a Lovejoy is a little more tolerant of misalignment, but if the chain coupler is working leave it alone.
