What happened to spring?

Here in my part of southern California, looks like we have gone from winter to summer, by passing spring. It was in the mid 80's for this week so far. I see some of you in the east are having a hard time, with the cold. Hang in there the best you can. Hope you have your tractor motors protected. Stan

Here in my part of Virginia we haven't had much of a winter and gone directly into summer for the past few years. Yeah, its been cold here but kinda the way I remember it. Dry is more my issue. Enjoy your weather.

Here in eastern Ohio its been around zero at nights warming up to around 20 through the day for about the last two weeks but the 40s are coming next week.

Here in N. Tx. weather has been reasonable winter and summer....sorta. Springs have been very wet the last few years causing winter hay crop to come off late and some what iffy getting it properly dried. Flip side of that is that the heavy clay holds that moisture for a different field with the summer hay crop doing extremely well.

I spent a winter in San Diego in my younger days wondering around the country. Sometimes I wish I would have stayed because of the nice weather. Although after making a trip there a couple years ago there was a freeway going thru where a use to live and the Tuna Plant I worked at that employed 100s of people was totally gone. The place was nuts compared to 69 when I was there. So I guess I'm better off here in the cold.

The weather here, in Northern Kentucky, has been winter, and then very little spring weather, just straight into summer for quite a few of the past several years. Fall is not as bad as far as an abrupt change.
This has been one of the worst prolonged cold spells this winter, in many, many years. Snow has been on the ground for almost 2 weeks, and the temperature has not been above freezing for about 3 weeks. Unusual for us! Mark.

The weather here in SE PA reminds me of my high school days in the late 70’s. Lacrosse practice started by running the hallways and migrated out to the parking lot after cars emptied out. Just normal in those days. Hopefully the Susquehanna ice doesn’t break up quickly or there will be serious flooding like 1996. We cleared paths to the outbuildings before the snow froze solid. Luckily.

It was 21 deg here at midnight with no wind and no snow.
At 5 AM it was 1 below with a stiff breeze and a steady snow falling.
Its all the way up to 2 deg now at 3:30 PM and we have accumulated another 2" of snow on top of all that hasn't melted since the middle of January.
But....Spring will come along eventually....it always does
I brought in an extra supply of ironwood in for my woodstove and the wife and I are sitting here enjoying the warmth.
That sounds kinda funny.....burning iron wood in my wood stove. LOL

NW wis. weird winter. Temp swings of 40 to 50 degrees from day to day. Was -25 a few days ago. Warmer now. But as I sit at my computer at 9 pm Feb 7th i have a mosquito buzzing around my head. People try to justify the cold weather by saying "haven't seen a mosquito in awhile". I can't say that. But I must explain. We overwinter breeding stock in the basement to insure that there are mosquitos next summer.

I was stationed at north island naval air station in 70, 71. We lived in san ysidro down by the mex border. Tried to find our house on google maps, but like you I think a freeway goes through where it was.

Most people don't think of Southern California as having any winter. What passes as winter there?

We are only a couple of degrees north of the California-Oregon border. We have or at least should use coolant preheaters to start the diesels .
