What is it?

Well got this old girl dropped off today. My 14 year old son picked up 2473 pounds of black walnuts to be able to buy it. It was sold to him as a jubilee but I know it is some sort of N, but which one? There will be tons of questions on getting her back going and in usable condition

If you are new to this forum, you have to make several posts before you can post a picture. I assume that you tried to post a pic. You can always post a link to some picture sharing website, or you can email me a picture and I will post it for you.

The red and grey one is an 8n, the grey on is a 9n/2n. Which does yours look like? (Notice the rear wheel bolt pattern difference). 8ns have 4 speed transmissions and both brake pedals on the right side. 9n/2ns have 3 speeds and a brake pedal on either side.

Yep I tried to post pics and it didnt work. It looks like the bottom pic that was posted. I cant read the tag I do know it has 2 pedals on the left if you are sitting on the tractor and one on the right. I would have to see how many gears is has. I didnt get a really long look at it. We had to go get 10 pallets of pumpkins before it got dark. He wants to get it going the guy said it was running good and he had a guy put new plugs points and wires on it and now it wont start. So we have to get it running and see where he wants to go from there. It is still set up with 6 volts. Do you think we should convert it to 12 volt? Like I said there will be a ton of questions coming and a lot of reading but it should make a great father son project

TOUCH!!! Why start replacing any part before performing a thorough, true root cause problem solving method??? ROOKIE MISTAKE #1. Get the ESSENTIAL MANUALS first and read religiously before you know what you are doing.

I've installed an inline resistor and disconnected the generator on several tractors I have purchased so I can troubleshoot and get them running on 12 volts as it is more convenient for me.

Get it running first, then consider what you might want to do with it. If it runs well and charges the battery, you may not want to modify anything.

Browse through several posts and look for a reply from Bruce (VA). Copy and print out his 75 tips. Lots of really good info there. You two should be able to get it running.

the top pic is of a 9n the rods that go out to the front axle are an I beam sort of looking where the 2n looks like the ones in the bottom rounded and tapere
