That's not a front end it is a power unit. It's the engine part of a tractor that would have been used to power a hay bailer or something like that. I'm not sure which model it is from your pictures but if you search for images of IH U1 or U2 power units you'll come pretty close. Look for a silver and black colored tag for the serial number and model number. That tag might be on the clutch housing.

It's a power unit/industrial engine.

The "velocity governor" above the carburetor adds an interesting twist to this, as, (AFAIK) that would not be present on most/any ag application (hay "bailer", etc.).

Must have been off of something else!

(Edited out "Cub".)

Yes, it is a Power Unit. However, it is not a Cub engine. In fact it is not the engine from any IH tractor. It was built by Continental. IH bought engines from Continental and added the surrounding pieces so it could be used to power a machine. You may find a Continental tag on one side or the other of the engine block. The gear-reduction clutch strongly suggests it was originally on a small combine.

The Vari-Speed governor was not originally part of the unit. If was probably installed when the then-owner couldn't get the original governor to work. The original governor is still there (just ahead of the carburetor) but all the linkage has been removed.

Do a web search for "Continental engine IY69" for pictures of others about like it.

Yep, grandpa had the IY69 on his 62 & 64 harvester thresher.

Thanks for all the replies it has the hand crank with it and I turned it over with it so I know it’s not frozen up but I don’t know what it’s worth or how I would go about selling it as I have no use for it
Any ideas on its value and how to sell it as I’m not a farmer
Thanks

Wonder if the vari-speed thing is for a welder?
Wouldn't have the clutch then.
Jim
I'm just guessing but suspect it is just a speed limiter. This type governor was/is installed on trucks to limit road speed. Note that this engine has now got a speed control knob that is connected directly to the carburetor. The vari-speed has its own butterfly to limit engine speed even with the carb pulled wide open.

There is a free Classified section on here under Marketplace I will link it. YT classified You have to select a section to place an add, probably be parts.
Not running I would guess it to be about a $500 deal. IH stuff doesn’t bring big bucks like a lot of John Deere stuff.

How much it's worth? Honestly, not much, especially not running. Even less if the engine is seized and doesn't turn, but luckily that's not the case. The engine doesn't fit any tractor that I'm aware of. Someone with an old 50T baler or the small pull type combine that uses that engine would be the likely customers, but those machines are extremely rare, and they could also use a Cub engine.

Sure, SOMEONE could use it, but it's a "right place, right time" situation. It's not worth having it trucked or driving several hours to get for most people.

Advertise it. Put a price on it. Start high, and lower your price every week until it sells. There's a marketplace here on this site, and if you're on Facebook, that marketplace is also a very popular place to sell things. In my opinion, $500 is a lofty amount, but you can always lower your price or entertain offers. I'm thinking $200 tops. There just isn't a "going market" for these types of things.

I second what Barnyard said, including his thoughts on value. You also might stick an ad on Craigslist. You could give some hints as to where it is located, again nobody will be eager to pay long distance freight for it.

The sheet metal applied to these and the IH power units depended more on the application than which engine was used.

I believe that's a theory... except if there are two 50Ts side by side, the Continental will have the styled hood and the Cub won't.

My brother owned a 52-R combine with the Y69 Continental that looked exactly like that. It was strictly hand crank start, with no provision for electrics. At all.
