What is this supposed to be for?

On the 440H I recently bought, there is a small pump-looking apparatus that's belt-driven on the left (drivers)side of the engine. It appears to have been linked to the carb at some point in the past, as there's a throttle-linkage stub on it, but it's no longer hooked up. Is this the automatic throttle up for the backhoe that's no longer on the machine?

not for backhoe operation, BUT,,, did you say i your 1st post that the motor tag say's 188? if so this motor was a transplant from a 600 combine and that is the govenor post us a pic so I can confirm this if it is and you do not want to use this any more or it is bad you will need a dooner 148-188 timing cover and the gutsunder it for a bal-type govener, be easier yo use the one there but if they did not maintain oil level in it se may be toast cnt

Hay Tim;
I think Bro is wright. If it looks like this it is a Pierce Gov. used on a 660 combine. You may well have a 188, or 207 in your tractor, transplanted from a combine. The one in my pics. I hope to put into my 310 Dozer, although it is a bit longer than the 148. The Dozer frame is drilled for the 5 main engine.

PS the 3/8 bolt sticking out the back is a sub for the drain plug. These Gov's had their own crankcase and had to be changed at the same time the engine oil was changed.

That's what I've got, CNT..it's exactly like that, plus the linkage isn't hooked up. I've got a 148B in the 67 440, if I need to shange it out. I was wondering why I wasn't getting very good throttle response. LOL..I had said it ran, but stopped short of saying it ran well...

That's good news..makes me want a 3pt hitch even more....

It may take a little while, but I'm gonna make a really good workhorse outta this thing.

It looks just like that, ACG..the fan sits a lot closer, though. In fact, it's got notches cut and laid back where it passes the front of the pulley on the governor. Looks factory, too, not like someone modified it.

Tim;
Looks like you got some added ponies; now you gota make them work for you. Good luck. With your options, you ought to put together a real winner.
Loren.
Ps I always have thought that a Triple Range Tranny bolted to a 530 COM torque tube would make a he!l of a tractor.
