What is this tool?

That MATCO box I bought was full of tools, with this among them.

Judging by the other tools, it's automotive related, but beyond that I haven't a clue.

Hood prop. I have one from my old autobody repair days. Should have a rubber bumper on both ends.

Hood prop. Got one just like it but I also use it as a brake prop when I do alignments

Maatco Hood prop. I have one in my box. It can be doubled as a brake pedal depressor but with the rounded end tends to slip off the steering wheel or can leave a depression in the set back. There is another tool for depressing the brake pedal that wraps over the steering wheel and looks somewhat similar to a caulking gun.

I use this tool a lot, even on hoods that have good lift struts or prop rods. Sometimes the prop rod or lift strut is in the way from working under the hood.
