What model Ford 3600?

Can someone help decipher this model no? CA261F
The 3600 is from 1978 and has a 4 spd transmission.
Downside is that it has no pto or 3 pt.

Also, can I put pto and 3pt on this model?

The website is somewhat helpful, but unfortunately, the oaktree website doesn't go beyond 1975 models and also doesn't explain the "a" in the 2nd position or the 6 in the 4th position.

I'm reasonably certain that it was originally some type of military unit because it originally had a cab on it and also lack of pto and 3pt hitch, makes me think it was used for towing planes around or something.
I would like to get the 3pt and pto added if it isn't prohibitively expensive.

If it has a 6 or 8 speed transmission, then it is possible to add the PTO, and the hydraulics for that matter. Yours would simply have the stripped down housings. The downside is that it won't be cheap.
I would guess that at best you could only add a non-live PTO without changing the transmission.... which would require the output shaft and related parts, the shifter, and probably a drive gear for the transmission unless it has a lower output shaft on the transmission already.
The hydraulics will require a pump, associated lines, lift cover and linkage.
To put it mildly, this will not be cheap even with salvage parts.... and then it would require some research just to figure out exactly what's needed.
The best solution is to buy a parts tractor with a bad engine and swap the back half onto your front if you choose to go ahead with this project...

Thanks for your response. The transmission is only a 4 speed and there is no hi/lo on it - only a forward and reverse lever.
The former owner of the tractor also advised to by a junk tractor and swap rear ends. (If I go that route, which tractor series rear ends will work with a 3600?
It did come with a hydraulic pump for the front of the tractor, which was apparently used for a broom. Ideally, I would like to get the tractor set up with a loader and pto and 3 point.

Another 3600 would be the easiest sway, and most correct. You could also probably do with a 2600.... and most likely a 4100 or 4600SU. None of them would produce too much work to swap. The biggest downside with the 4600 or 4600SU is that they are much higher in the rear and the tractor will be "running downhill" all the time. Otherwise, you've got to get one with small rear wheels and the correct differential to keep the speed up...
Technically speaking I'm fairly certain you can mate any 3 cylinder thousand series or "600" series back half to your tractor's front half. There might be a little screwing around, but nothing major.... at last I don't think there's anything major.
Personally I'd stick to the 3600 or 4100 since they're likely to be easiest and have bette hydraulics than the older tractors. The 4100 will also have a double reduction rear axle and a wet PTO clutch. Something to think about....
