what model is this tractor

I have found an old JD literally in the woods and want to know what model it is. Looks like a A from some of the pictures here on the forum. Cannot find a serial number tag. This number is on the back of axle on right.D82612R, what does this number represent. I am thinkg about restoring it.

That's a casting number identifying the real axle housing. Are you sure the # you gave is correct?Could it be D2612R? I would say it's a Model D.

D2612R is a brake shaft lever for a unstyled d.

After I posted I looked in the parts catalog(s) and found that out. It's also for a styled D.

I was wrong about it possibly being a Model D.

Is the number on a housing that bolts to the backside of the axle? Are the words UP & DOWN to the right of the number? If so, the number you're looking at is B2621R. There's a JD logo just to the left.

I think the tractor is a late-styled Model B, mid '47 to '52. The ser.# tag, if it still has one, is on top of the main case under the magneto or distributor.
