I recently purchased a 1952 John Deere model 60 tractor. It is the gasoline type with rollamatic front and a 800 or 801 3 pt hitch. I would like to find a moldboard plow for it shortly to plow the gardens and plow under our hay fields when transitioning to another crop. My service manual states that the 60 was meant to pull a 2x16 plow under normal conditions, while my owner's manual states that under normal conditions one should use a 3X14 (and even a 4X14) plow. I would like to hear from anyone who has farmed with this old tractor before. How many plow bottoms did you prefer to use with the 60? Also, what size disc harrow can it handle? Thank you for your input.
Sincerely,
Peter Markel
