What to do about tire sizes?

I am going to a auction Tuesday and thinking about buying a JD 2355 4WD w/cab and Bush Hog Loader 2446QT.
Here is the problem . It has Turf R-3 tires on it. They are Rear 18.4x26 and front 9.5x24. I would like to put Ag R1 on Rear 18.4x30 and front 12.4x24. I have been told I must buy new rims and center for the rear at about $2200.00 plus the cost of the tires $1000.00. The 12.4x 24 Ag R1 will fit front rims.

To save money I could put 18.4x26 Ag R1 on but I think it will make this tractor to low??????

first we need to know what you are going to do with the tractor....Other than spraying or maybe round baling, does clearance make much of a difference? I guess it might pull a bit better with other tires, but that depends on what your pulling too...

I have some swamp land that is just growing up that need to be bush hog down.

I guess what I need to know is how much more the 30" will raise it over the 26" tires??

If it is swampy, no matter what you put on the tractor it will most likely sink, especially with the loader on the front and a 3pth mower on the rear. For flotation, the turf tires will probably be better than the ag tires, but will spin out/down easier.
Before you commit to buying wheels/tires talk to a Deere dealer and make sure the sizes you want will work, otherwise you will be putting alot of unnecessary strain on the drivetrain. As for your question you might pick up 2-4 inches of clearance at most

According to the Firestone Ag website, the loaded radius of the R1 and R3 versions of the 18.4-26 only vary by 0.1" and the rolling circumference is exactly the same. So, you should be able to swap them out without changing your clearance or gear ratio.
