what woudl u use?

Go to your local parts store and pick up a bottle of concentrated engine degreaser. Hit the motor with a powerwasher (not too hard, don't want to eat a gasket), spray it down with the degreaser, let it soak a bit, then washer down.
 
I have seen engine degreaser change the color of paint.The military uses dawn dish soap by the pallet load to remove grease and oil.Bill M.
 
Ha a customer that cleaned up his crane with dish detergent. He probaby used several cases of the stuff and a bunch of elbow grease, but when he was done it was clean enough to eat off of. If the stuff will clean up the grime found on the old draglines like he had it will definately do what your wanting done.
 
It is messy and smelly, but a pan of diesel and a parts cleaning brush have worked pretty well for me for years. When I was a kid, I used gas the same way, which scares the heck out of me now! Gas can cause a flash fire, but diesel will not. Good luck!
