What's it worth?

I am looking at a IH 311 (I think) 3 bottom trip plow with fasthitch points. Does anyone know what it's worth? It appears all parts are intact on the bottoms and were greased probably years ago but doesn't seem to have had much for corrrosion going on on them. I don't know what to offer the fellow. He also has a fasthitch back blade. It looks like it was made from the factory with fast hitch points. I don't know if it is IH or not, rusty. It has two places with handles on a cogged piece to allow for turning the blade completely around in a cricle and one is for changing the level of the blade. Does anyone know what the IH ones were like? or what it may be worth also? Looks like a lot of edge left on the blade and no abnormal bends any where?

Same guy has these two units, if the blade is IH I would maybe purchase the pair.

One other thing...would this plow be a good match to my 460u?

I recently purchased an IH 311, 3x14 fast hitch plow. It had been parked in a fence row for several years. The paint is basically gone but the wear points, coulters, gauage wheels, etc. seemed to be in decent shape. I bought it for $100. Northern Indiana.

The gentleman I purchased it from used it to farm w/ a 460 in clay loam soils, you should get along fine. I intend to restore it and use it on a 560 at Rantoul, IL at the next farm antique show. Out there you need one less bottom on the tractor. We consider those heavy soils.

I live in SW Wi. and lately the cost of 2 point equipment has been going higher. I bought a 2 bottom fast-hitch for $100 about 8 yrs. ago and now they are going for $2-250. Although 3 bottom goes for about the same. You shouldn"t have a problem pulling a 3 bottom with the 460.

Butch,Here in WV its usally a 100 per bottom for any plow than another 50-100-per bottom for fast hitch

Butch WI, yup, a 311. 4 as in 460 = four bottom plow tractor and 3 as in 340 and 5 as in 560 = three and five bottom plow tractors respectively. IH made a model 200 = two point and 300 = three point rear blades. The blades can get pricey, I want an eight foot, model 200 in perfect shape for $100 if you find me one. :^) Ifn ya don't want that blade and it's eight feet, holler here. IH also made them in six and seven foot lengths. Danuser is another fast hitch blade maker in various widths. I tried four times to post a brochure spec sheet on IH's, but Epson must have a slow www connection today as it hasn't made it around yet. I will check on the situation later today as I think the world 'she's a round' yet.

It might be only a 6 or 7 foot blade, no tag on it at all. Would you shoot me an email with your phone number? I may go look at it and the plow on friday but it is an hour away. Then I could call you when I get to see it better. Although I have no idea what an IH one even looks like. If I had time i would maybe do a search here or in implement photos but barely have time to do what I'm doing here when the sun is shining out there! I still remember what was so severely burned into my skull as a youngster..."C`mon were burnin' daylight!"

The blade sounds like a IH #1 backfill blade. That cast iron hub always reminded me of a small fire hydrant. I bought mine at an auction for $200.00 about ten years ago. It's a six foot blade with small points. My two point, two bottom plow I think cost me about $250. That two point stuff is hard to find or I'm not looking in the right places. Jim
