thanks for any help

It looks like the range select. Take the battery and battery tray off and see if there are not the gear map cast into the transfer housing. It will either have a high low range or a triple range. There may also be a fill hole.

id put the battery back in its original place, spewing fumes n acid not good on you n clothes.safety switch i see is unhooked.
that shifter is range lever as said above tripl range or dual range

i dont know much or pretty much anything about tractor this is my first one got it cheap funs great does what i need so . no glue where the battery should go of what is disconnected of even what the range lever does .

Just in case you don't know, the range lever drives off of a different set of gears to give you either double (8) or triple (12) speeds. Double range has a High speed and Low position and triple range has a high, low, and direct drive position.

That tray under the battery is on both of my Case 530 tractors and that's where the battery was located when I got them. Is there a different location ?? Thanks

I'm in the same boat as CaseChev: On my 530 AG and 630 the battery is located where the OP shows it. Was there ever another location for it? Even the picture of the restored 530 on tractor data has the battery there. On the 530, there's a second 12V battery tied in parallel up in front of the rad - I suspect the PO did it to give more cranking amps. Though maybe back in the day it was two 6V's in series?

As mentioned, that lever is the range shift. If it's a triple range (I'm not sure if the CK ever came with the triple range?) You pull it in/out sideways to be able to access the third range.

530 batteries were located as shown above the range transmission, below the dash. There was a separate cover originally, frequently discarded. 430 had the batteries under the hood, between the fuel tank and steering column. Neither location was great for servicing or jumping the batteries.

Range lever, forward is low and pull back for high range. On the other (left) side of battery the lever is forward pull back and reverse push forward. That's how my 1963 530ck works...mine is shuttle shift dual range dry clutch transmission.
