Whats your crazy thing

Sometimes im amused at the things that get me cranked up. Was combining corn today and was thinking about what gives me the angries when running the co.bine, for me its a hopper less than full. I just hate dumping a less than full hopper. If I have to fill the unload auger to make it to the end I'm extatic. Lol. Dumping 2/3 of a hopper is only a tid but better than an actual break down. Luckily around here very few fields are square, so there are lots of point rows so I can top off the tank most times. Here is a pic of the action today, 1160 combine, 830d com, and case 10 ton gear under that box.

I am in Barron County Wi not too far from you. We had light rain almost all day today and had a bunch Wednesday evening too. It's been pretty dry so far for the farmers here, but still a lot of corn in the fields yet. I had a Northland Building erected here, crew was from Pine City, don't remember their name though. Good Luck with your harvest

It frustrates me to make 11/12ths of a round and have the hopper spill over.

Now that means a good yield so I should be happy, and indeed a blessing.

But dang, all that extra horsing around to stop and back and go unload, then circling around to catch all those short rows left behind. Big time waster.

Variable speed sheaves shucking the belt for the 3rd time seemed to be my nemesis this year. But we got done so that’s a good feeling.

with the delay harvesting all the corn is dry so the wildlife throughout the county is going to be happy this winter I’ve never seen so much corn on the side of the road every curve has some

Really can't see the hopper that well on mine until it's showing a mound and then it becomes a guessing game of can I make it. Trying to keep a full hopper from spilling over on the cab, while traversing small ditches to get to the wagon is my exciter. Your post made me think how handy a remote camera on the hopper would be.

That never bothered me but Dad wanted the ben full and would pull out and drive back to the truck to dump. That was when he didn't have someone in the truck to come to him. I never ask but he would tell his yield of each field. I think his was a math deal. He has been dead forover 30 years.

Only reason i can see of filling to the full mark is to see what the yield is before it gets to the bin.
I am more than happy to dump every time I get to the end.. I hate when I push to get to the end and it spills over, or go down the last hill and it pours down the back of the cab. Nothing but a waste to pour it over.

I started running the 91 and 93 combines at age 10, but spent most of my time chasing the combines with the grain trucks, and could see when the bins were getting full. One year in wheat, there was a big backup to unload at the mill, so at age 11 they were bringing every truck in the yard out for me to fill, so I started driving the 2-stick Loadstar and the 6x6 limespreaders real fast. It look a lot of grain sacks to leakproof a limespreader lol. The mill ran all night to empty out the stacked up trucks

Never bothered me to empty a partial hopper. But it did bother me to watch some one stop combining to eat lunch when a storm was coming.
Yep, a storm on the horizon will tend to get me double timing it.

Reminds me of the time I had 4 acres of nice second cut hay raked up and got dark clouds coming over the hill. I baled that 4 acres in under 20 minutes from leaving shed to back to shed. Started pouring as I was backing the load in under roof. Funny thing when we went to unload had a half dozen bales that were 6 foot long at least. Dad couldn't figure out how they came out of the bale thrower (old IH 47 baler no.10 thrower). About every third plunger stroke was spitting a bale out. I was maybe 14 or 15 at the time.

As a kid I combined a wheat field that was swathed. Turned out it was 14-15% moisture, took a small dockage at the elevator. Dad was kind of mad, why didn’t I let it dry a bit more. I said well there is a heavy rain forecast tomorrow. Dad just shrugged, kids always wasting money…..

The next noon rain came, rained 6 inches that afternoon one of the heaviest rains we have ever seen. We couldn’t even get much straw off that field, the windrows all floated to the low spots in piled up soggy mess.

One of the few times dad admitted I did ok after all.
