Wheatland Tractors ???

Hi all , I would love to have someone please explain the difference of a wheatland tractor and just a regular tractor ?? i read that term all the time on here and really have no idea what the difference is ?? thanks alot !

Wheatland or standard tractors generally have lower gravity center, lower crop clearance, wider shorter tires,and in most cases fixed or non adjustable tread width.whereas a rowcrop type tractor had taller narrower tires, more crop clearance, and adjustable track to fit down different row widths planting and culivating row crops.Paul

To me, and the wheatland tractors I had---Swinging drawbar, was needed to turn coners with a BIG pull behind impliment. Wide front end, no single or close together, as a cultivator tractor. Very few with 3-point. 3 points cost money. We weighted the h### out of them for a straight pull. Case 930/1030, W9/WD9, M&M U/G/GVI, JD R/830 etc for the old ones.

I haven't looked myself, but you might go the the photo archives for some pictures of the different types. Those old wheatlands were meant for gut wrenching pulling with big implements on the drawbar on big stretches of land. I don't have one, but I sure like the looks of them. One of the fellers that goes on the tractor rides with me has 460, 560, and 660 wheatland Farmall all dressed up in their Sunday clothes. The 460 and 660 were the first ones of those I'd ever seen. Neat.

Coloken, do you think the 900B Case would fit in that cateory. I've never heard them called that but the first 930's were just an upgraded 900. Just thinking out loud. Len

900B..probable one of the best tractors ever made. Think it had the Bosh inline injector pump--might be wrong. Like some one said, no adjustable rear wheels makes a wheatland. 500 had 6 cyl diesel with LA transmission, then 600 with 6 speed tran. then 900 and 930. Some where in there they went to 8 speed. All this is what I might not remember right, cause I am getting older that them tractors. Sorry if i am wrong.

I have two wheatlands, one(1966)Case 930 comfort king western special six speed with over center hand clutch no 3pt non adjustable front and rear axles 1000 lbs wt per rear wheel
the other, 1965 JD 3020 solid (heavy) non adjustable front axle, Round fenders,battery boxes on the fenders, no 3pt, has swinging drawbar. rear wheels do adjust. they have 5 wt per side 3on the inside two on the outside.

I have two 900's--one 58 and one 59(Parts). The 59 was inline and 58 was round distributor type. Both good tractors. The eight speed trannie was added in 62 or 63 I think, maybe wrong on that. I could look it up in one my books I guess.

Wheatlands (or standards) sit lower (don't need crop clearance), usually have big fenders and dust shields, most have no 3-point, some no PTO, big tires, fixed axels, and the driver's seat is usually back farther. My favorite tractors. I have a Gvi Minnie, a 900 Case, and a 560W IH. The only thing I don't like about them is you can't see the rear tires, so at the pulls, you don't know which brake to hit when you start spinning.

I think of wheatland or standard axles being the simpler kind that is attached to the tractor in the center and the whole unit turns.
Wide front ends generally mean the axle remains straight out from the body and the front wheels turn like in a car.
Regular tractors are row crop with the front wheel(s) right under the front of the body close together so both go down the same row. Like the Farmall Regular.
